From the Tablet of Orithan verses 55-58: THE MEDIATION OF THE BEAST

And the SERPENT had given birth to its most beloved child, the great beast Orthrus. Though just as terribly voracious and unforgiving as the rest of their sire, Orthrus was by far the most influential. Given the duty of quelling the constant infighting among its brethren, Orthrus set about the body of Orithan and divided it among his kin. And Orthrus gained the most love from his mother and he returned her affection with his complete devotion.

Abilities/Aspects:
- Powerful jaws can maul most foes to death with relative ease
- Capable strategist
- Can run at speeds in excess of 100 mph
- Rubbery body able to shrug off most blunt trauma, will instinctively split apart when struck with enough force
- Able to split apart and separate into smaller canine-like creatures (body mass decreases in accordance to the amount of separations made)

Main Storyline: The Trials of Cretaphus prt. 5

Cretaphus had defeated Lycian. But with his victory came a terrible price.

During the scuffle, Cretaphus had poured a large quantity of his power into Lycian in the hopes of overloading the creatures body. Though it was overall successful, Cretaphus had become considerably drained from not only the endeavor but also the ensuing scuffle within the magma pool which Lycian managed to create before her timely demise. In truth, every battle leading up to this had been taking their toll on Cretaphus’ body despite his regenerative powers hiding the fact. Clarecles knew this more than anyone, perhaps even more so than Cretaphus himself. The creature needed to rest and it needed to do so in a place where it could do so safely.

Knowing that it was only a few miles away from their location, Clarecles desired to take Cretaphus back to his village where he could heal with some meager security. Bellphon however thought it was a fool hardy idea. Cretaphus was at deaths door and even if they could get him to the village there was no guarantee they could protect him. It was best to leave the creature to die in peace. Clarecles however could not accept the notion and claimed that Cretaphus had not only saved his life more than once today but also all of their lives from Lycian and they owed the creature as much. Everyone finally relented to Clarecles plan and claimed that if they were going to do this, they needed to do it before night fall. Clarecles thanked them for their cooperation and warily approached Cretaphus. Clarecles began to speak to Cretaphus, unknowing if the creature could actually understand him, and told him that he needed to stand and follow them and that they were going to take him someplace safe to rest. At first Cretaphus did nothing but snort and groan but when Clarecles finally found the nerve to actually touch him, a conection was somehow made between the two and Cretaphus dreary rose to his feet and began to follow the smaller creatures though was only capable of keeping pace due to his larger size.

It took the group until nightfall but finally they made it to their destination. However most of the villagers were not so pleased with Clarecles’ new friend and immediately assumed it was another one of the beast’s spawn sent there to destroy them. Clarecles’ wife Geanin was especially angry with him and right after embracing him for knowing that he was alive and unharmed, did not appreciate him worrying her nearly to death especially over some creature. Clarecles however told everyone his and Cretaphus’ tale of fighting the Spawns of the Beast and what Cretaphus was capable of doing and when they had heard the creature had actually killed Lycian, they cautiously acknowledged Cretaphus as a potential savior from their centuries of torment. Some though still were not satisfied. One of those few was the high priest of the village Marticas who claimed that if Clarecles story was indeed true than the other beasts may attempt to exact vengeance for their brethren’s deaths and exclaimed that if they killed Cretaphus here and now than their mother may favor them and halt her children’s attacks against their village at the least. Clarecles angrily refused this notion and insisted in allowing Cretaphus to continue his campaign the moment he was well enough to. But at that critical moment of debate, a bone shaking howl was heard from the distance and everyone quickly dreaded the noise as they all knew only one beast could make a terrifying sound. Orthrus had arrived within the area and was indeed seeking revenge for his sibling’s deaths.

While everyone began to scatter and run for safety, Marticas spurned Clarecles for bringing the beasts to their homes. As Clarecles insinuated otherwise, a massive glow filled the night sky and an ear splitting screech swarmed the air along with Orthrus howls of war.

The fifth part of the Trials of Cretaphus arc. This design of Orthrus was finished relatively quickly since my first version wasn't what I truely wanted and I changed him at the last minute though I believe its for the best.

Edit: Colored version update. Decided to try something new with the colors here as I really wanted to accentuate Orthrus abilities more so than simple line art would have allowed
